Each year students from countries throughout the world make the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) their first choice in quality education. The Office of Admissions provides the information and guidance that is needed to be admitted at UIS. To make the admission process more efficient, this office admits only International Undergraduate and U.S. students; all Graduate students are admitted through the graduate departments to facilitate special requirements for Graduate programs. These offices are both familiar with immigration regulations and understand the complexity of the required admission process. Your questions will be answered and decisions made promptly to allow for visa issuance. UIS offers an unforgettable combination of opportunities of a respected public residential university in the USA at a cost that is less than larger institutions located throughout the states while students are afforded the safety and hospitality of small-town America. The International Center offers the resources that all International students find they need from arrival issues, mandatory orientation of immigration requirements, cultural counseling and a safe place just to sit and study.

Interests
Welcome to the University of Illinois Springfield where we are committed to ensuring your success in an ever increasingly globalized world marketplace while providing an environment that is supportive, nurturing and facilitative of your research, studies and work. UIS is one of the best places to pursue a degree according to the most recent rankings released by US News and World Report. Only a short decade ago, the term globalization functioned as a buzzword and was often used synonymously with efforts to internationalize—to introduce international elements into a domestic environment and not necessarily in any coordinated way. But the phenomenon of globalization has evolved a good deal since then. Globalization recognizes that academic, business and government functions span the globe and are linked with similar functions in other nations at multiple levels.
In the case of students, for example, gone are the days when activities like study abroad are considered “exotic” experiences for students at expensive private academic institutions.
Many US and multinational firms consider a successful study abroad experience an important indicator of a prospective employee’s ability to adapt and function in a multicultural workplace. And US students are beginning to understand this in rather large numbers. UIS also hosts a large number of international undergraduate and graduate students from various countries.
Our population of international students plays an important role in helping to diversify and culturally enrich our campus and efforts are undertaken across the University to make them an integral part of the overall campus fabric—they are an important part of who we are. But we also recognize their special needs.
Consequently, special events, international student organizations, and specialized immigration services are provided for their support. We strive to recruit the best and brightest students around the world. Please feel free to visit our website at www.uis.edu or email at sdien2@uis.edu.
